This was my favorite volunteering experience to date!

Very well organized by the volunteers and teachers, and very well received by the students!

[Testimonial from a Community Volunteer, 2023]

On Friday, March 14, 2025, from 8am - 3:30pm, we will host a financial education fair for the graduating class at Lincoln Sudbury Regional High School. This is a simulation of the financial obstacles students will face throughout their lives. The Reality for Life Fair is a nationally recognized program designed to help high school students develop personal financial management skills that they will use throughout their lives. Specifically, this is an interactive fair during which the students play the roles of 25-year old adults.  The students will choose a profession, and will be given an average annual salary for a 25 year old in that profession. Then working within a budget based on their monthly "income" and credit score, students visit multiple booths over a predetermined time period to make "purchase" decisions utilizing cash, credit or savings.

This event gets the community and school to work in collaboration with a positive message and hands on learning to get students thinking about their financial futures.  In order to run this event, we need volunteers from the community to help out.  We are looking for volunteers that have knowledge in particular areas to supervise a booth, however prior knowledge is not mandatory.  We are happy to welcome any individuals willing to lend a helping hand!  Truthfully, the only requirement is a willingness to have thoughtful conversations regarding financial decision-making with our wonderful teenagers!  :)

We need volunteers for the following booths:

  • Charitable Giving

  • Education & Training (Student Loans)

  • Food and Nutrition

  • Health and Wellness (Health Insurance and Fitness Options)

  • Housing, Furniture & Utilities

  • Lifestyle (Clothing, Hair, Other Salon Services, Cell Phone, Cable/Internet)

  • Fun-Fun-Fun! (Vacations, Entertainment, TV and Pets)

  • Part-time Jobs

  • Planning for the Future (Savings, Retirement and Investments)

  • Transportation (Cars-loan, gas, insurance and maintenance / Other Transportation Options)

  • The Reality Wheel (A chance for students to win prizes or talk through tough life scenarios, i.e. losing a job.)

  • Credit Counselor (Looks over student budgets and helps them make better decisions when needed. Circulates through the fair to assist students when needed.)

  • Networking (This booth would give our students the opportunity to speak with adults in professions of interest, and to ask questions of the adults (you all!) who have worked in these professions.  We are hoping you all can provide our students with advice on steps they can take to achieve their goals and be successful in a variety of careers.)

  • League of Women’s Voters (This is just for a specific group of volunteers.  They know who they are!!)
